Postmaster William Petmechy announces a new Christmas postage stamp, a duplicate of last year’s design by Hans Wemling. U S Combat Air Forces First Lieutenant Langford C Metzger son of Mr and Mrs L A Metzger Harper Texas has earned the Distinguished Flying Cross at Nha Trang AB Vietnam for extraordinary achievement as a navigator. Despite hostile ground fire he remained over five hours to collect reconnaissance data supporting allied ground operations. He also holds the Air Medal and is with a Pacific Air Forces unit. A Harper High School graduate, he was commissioned in 1964 through the aviation cadet program.

Gillespie County 4 H members and leaders attend District 7 4 H Council meeting at Ingram Guest Ranch with 47 youths 47 adults and guests from 16 counties. Janet Landers opened the gathering with Welcoming remarks as Kerr County Roth called roll and county reports were presented.
Otto Rahe the official LCRA rain observer for Harper reports October rainfall of 2.87 inches. The year to date totals show 17.79 inches through October, down from 23.90 inches for the same period last year, indicating a dryer year and summer. First killing frosts in Oct through Dec years 1952–1965 occurred seven times in November and one in December. No killing frost has been observed yet this year in the area.
Thirty six 4-H members and leaders will be recognized at the Gillespie County 4-H Awards Banquet on November 6 at 7 30 p m in the Community Savings Hall. Awards honor outstanding work in agriculture and home economics with donations from national and local supporters and a turkey dinner.
Emil Tatsch suffered a stroke Monday around 1 30 in the afternoon at his home while vetting his pickup. Pete Casper was present and helped. They were en route to inspect work Pete planned to do, and Emil was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Mr and Mrs Clifford Wienecke honored their parents and Mr and Mrs Edwin Steackbein on their 29th wedding anniversary with a barbecue dinner. Attending were Ruben Nixon Clinton of Doss Kermit Strackbein and family from San Antonio. Wednesday guests included Otto Weinecke family and Hugo Klein family, Bobby Weinecke and baby, and Mrs Bill Hughes visiting relatives.
A farewell dinner honored Rev. and Mrs. David Gallaher after his resignation was tendered. He preached his last sermon on Sunday, October 29, and will relocate to a church at Char Day, where he will begin duties at a Presbyterian church.
Werdna B Brown Sr died in San Antonio Saturday after an illness. Services were held Monday at Plummer-Fate Chapel in Kerrville with burial at Glen Rest Cemetery. Brown, a plumbing and heating contractor, was born February 27 in Texas and survived by his wife Latette C Brown, one daughter, two sons, and several grandchildren.
Miss Quincey Cal Tuckness became the bride of Robert Allen Bowers in a double ring ceremony at Trinity Baptist Church in Austin. Rev. R. D. Wade presided. The couple, formally joined by families, will reside in Fort Worth.
Mroo and Mrs Ivie Cosper visited Harper to see Mrs Cosper and relatives. Mroo and Mrs Carlton Wendel and daughter from Denton spent the weekend with their parents. Victor Wendel and Mrs Janine Strackbeinvisit from Oklahoma. Mroo and Mrs Edgar Strackbein and Mrs Jimmie Strackbein will stay while overseas. Families including Masses Cuttle and the Herbert Oto family visited in Plano for Tammie Joe’s birthday. Various locals and out-of-town guests visited Harper and surrounding towns.
