Indian Mound Nursery Site in Cherokee County Texas
The home site of a 1000 A.D. Indian mound near Alto in Cherokee County hosts the Texas Forest Service Indian Mound Nursery. Located six miles southwest of Alto on State Highway 21 near the Neches River, a granite seven foot L shaped monument marks the mound. Archaeologists in 1910 found no artifacts of significance, but traces of houses and sun worship sites were noted. The area, now a tree nursery, is maintained by local workers and supports irrigation water use. Initial production began in 1940 with a planned capacity of 2 million seedlings annually for Texas landowners at cost.

Rare Bird Sighted in East Texas Anniversary for Bishop Metzger
Fragmented text references a 25th anniversary celebration for Bishop Sidney Metzger and mentions a rare bird sighting in East Texas. The remainder includes garbled prose about events, people, and places, with unclear connections to the celebration. The readable portions point to a local commemoration and a wildlife note.
