The ninetieth annual session of the Southwest Texas Conference of the Methodist Church closed at Travis Park Church after May 18 to 21. Bishop A Frank Smith presided and Bishop Paul B Kern delivered the conference sermon. Dr Finis Crutchfield Jr. gave morning devotions and spoke to youth. The gathering celebrated the Crusade for Christ with over 27 million dollars raised for relief and rehabilitation and more than a million new members. The conference approved a new four year program and reappointments were announced for several pastors.
Harper's Churches invite all to attend on Sunday May 30 with Masses at 8 and 9:30, exposition and benediction, Sunday School, and worship services. Next week marks First Friday in June and the Feast of the Sacred Heart with special observances nationwide for True World Peace. Also notes social visits and travel among local families.
The Harper Baptist and Presbyterian churches announce a joint Vacation Bible School from June 6 to June 12 with invited Methodist Christians. Details to follow. Maurice L. Barnett of Waco Presbytery will speak next Sunday. The Trinity University graduates Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Brewer will attend degree ceremonies in San Antonio.

The Luther League held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday May 23 1948 at 7 30 pm with hymns a responsive reading a prayer scripture Matthew 4 12 25 topic from Reed to Rock led by Magdalena Wendel and Beatrice Sagebiel and Rev M C Hoermann officiating A closing prayer and the Lord s Prayer followed by a doxology then volleyball and refreshments of ice cream and cookies The next meeting is set for June 27 at 7 30 pm
Mr and Mrs Harald Georges and Miss Elenora Sagebiel traveled to spend the weekend with their hosts Mr and Mrs Albert Sagebiel in San Antonio. The family gatherings reflect local social customs and intergenerational ties within the Sagebiel household.
