Roosevelts speech judged as propaganda by critics
Critics argue Roosevelt’s Friday night address offers only partial truths and aims to sway public opinion by dampening fears of German aggression. They say his talk implies America must wage war far from home to protect democracy while ignoring direct guarantees to defend Europe, suggesting pacifist signals mask a push toward distant conflict.
