War Deceased PFC Wilburn Durst Honored in Gillespie County

PFC Wilburn Durst 26 husband of Esther Kott and son of Mr and Mrs Ben Durst is listed as killed in action in Belgium on January 18 1945. He enlisted March 14 1944 from San Antonio and later served on fronts in France Germany and Belgium. Survived by wife parents and sister Myrtle Durst he would have turned 27 February 26. He is the 17th Gillespie County man to die in World War II.

SGT 5 G Herbert F McDougall Slightly Injured in Action

Mr and Mrs Alfred McDougall learned from the War Department that Tech Sergeant 5 6 Herbert F McDougall was slightly injured in action in France on January 26 1945. He went overseas recently and appears in front lines for only a few days.

WOUNDED IN ACTION ALERTS FAMILY OF WILLIE ELLEBRACHT

War Department informs Mr and Mrs Wesley Ellebracht their son Pvt Willie L Ellebracht was slightly wounded in France January 4. They have not heard from him directly. Another son S Sgt Eddie Ellebracht was wounded on Leyte December 30 and moved to General Hospital in New Guinea.

American Catholic leaders tour South America for education grants

Three prominent American Catholic churchmen Bishop J. H. Schlarman Monsignor Joseph P. Morrison and Monsignor L. G. Ligutti begin a three month goodwill tour of South America visiting bishops and religious superiors to offer scholarships for graduate study in social sciences at American Catholic universities. They will also recruit promising young farmers for U S farm apprentices to become lay rural missionaries.
