First Catholic Cemetery of Fredericksburg Origins
The land for the first Catholic cemetery, about ten acres, was bought in 1860 by Bishop J M Odin for five dollars from Peter Bickenbach, located one mile northwest of Fredericksburg. St Marys parish later established the present ten acre site donated by John and Mrs Becker in 1876. In 1903 the ten acre section was sold to John Rosenbach for 1.1 and a promise to maintain the fence and gate. About 120 people are buried there. A wooden cross memorial was erected during Rev H G Gerlach’s tenure. The parish is urged to keep the cemetery in order.
