Trends In Rural Education In Texas
Rural Texas schools keep pace with urban schools despite a 66 percent drop in number since 1949. Courses broadened and special services such as nurses librarians and counselors are now in rural districts. Attendance in five counties studied was 92.9 percent, a high mark. Dr Skrabanek notes pupil teacher ratios under 25. Consolidation reduced school counts. non transported students showed better attendance and slightly higher grades with no link between bus distance and performance. The San Antonio Livestock Exposition awarded Dan Wade Crenwelge's Grand Champion Hereford steer "Shorty" a $14,000 sale price to Dumas Miliner Chevrolet Company.
