Tun Wayton Calhoun Jr. is elected president of Paine College in Augusta succeeding Dr. Edmund C. Peters effective June 35. Calhoun, a Douglas Georgia native and former China missionary, previously led Riverside Methodist Church in Miami Florida.
Mr and Mrs Edward Jessie Walker and their young son from Tennessee have stayed in Fredericksburg visiting relatives for several days and enjoying local sights.

Richard S. Miller, known as Dick Miller, district agent for Extension District 7 based in San Angelo, will retire August 31 after nearly 35 years serving farmers ranchers and rural youths in Texas. He began as a county agent in 1921 and has held multiple district roles across Gulf Coast South Texas South-central Texas and now District 7. He will return to San Saba county to continue ranching after graduation from Texas A&M in 1913.
A son weighing 8 pounds 13 ounces was born to Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Lang Jr in Kerrville. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Lang Sr of Harper. Mrs. James Ellis and children from Bridge City visit her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ouo Wienecke.
F. C. Armstrong will meet with the District's Board of Supervisors at the SCS office on Monday July 2 at 2 00 pm. The public is invited to learn how the soil conservation district operates and to review action plans delivered to Glenn Murr Davis Murr Murr Hodges Cardinal Chemical Company and Roy Spiller. Refreshments were served to eleven members and one visitor.

Glenn Green is spending the week with his aunt and uncle Clayton Kneese and son. Miss Cherry Parker returned to San Antonio after vacation with her parents. Mr and Mrs Ellis Lang and daughter of Comfort spent Sunday with their parents. Mr and Mrs Gottlieb Bernhard of Hunt visited Mr and Mrs Edwin Klein Tuesday.
The U S Civil Service Commission advertises examinations for tabulating equipment and machine operator roles and supervisory positions in the Washington DC region with salaries from 2960 to 4525 dollars yearly. Applicants must pass a written test and show relevant experience, with training substitutions allowed. Applications accepted until further notice via the Washington office or local post offices.

Edwin Klein and Ruben Roe der attended a brotherhood meeting at the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church Monday night. The ladies and children accompanied them and visited Mrs. Adolph Bernhard and family. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mack Scarborough of Austin spent their vacation at Harper with their parents and other relatives.
Alfred Solomon and his son from San Antonio visited Mr and Mrs Gordon Harper Sunday morning. They were en route to Indian Camp near Ingram. Subscribed to the Herald at $1.50 per year.
