Nimitz Hotel founder Charles Nimitz dies in Fredericksburg

Charles H. Nimitz, a noted hotelman and surveyor, died after a long illness. Born May 16, 1852 in Fredericksburg, he helped survey lines in Mexico and the United States, and oversaw the Pecos river bridge project. He married Antonia Lungwitz in 1890 and led the Nimitz Hotel after his father Capt. Charles Nimitz founded it in 1855. Surviving are his wife, two sons Charles and Frank, four sisters and two brothers.

Big Irish potatoes sent to The Herald editor

The Herald editor thanks Henry Thiele for a fine display of large Irish potatoes grown in his garden. Some weighed nearly a pound each and Thiele says Harper's suit excels at potato growing. Last year John Heinemann shipped 3,000 pounds of potatoes from Slat Rock Farm to Junction for a fancy price, also grown on Harper sovil.

Rattlesnake Bites Clifton Hopf Nine

Clifton Hopf nine year old son of Mr and Mrs Alfonso Hopf was bitten by a rattlesnake a few miles below Harper while climbing a tree. The snake with one rattle and a button struck him four times. He received anti venom serum from a local druggist and was rushed to the city for care where Dr J B Birt later arrived to supervise. At last report he was in severe pain but out of danger.
