The Travelers Insurance Company releases figures showing fuel efficiency and tire wear rise with speed. At 25 mph a gallon travels 20.4 miles. at 65 mph it drops to 12.8 miles. Oil use doubles from 25 to 65 mph. maintenance costs more than tripled. Overall, 25 mph costs about 2 cents per mile, 65 mph about 5 cents.
