Comptroller Bob Bullock warned in an updated forecast that Texas will owe nearly all tax receipts to meet spending for the next two years leaving about 27 million in the treasury. He credited governor vetoes welfare cuts and new tax officers for enabling bill certification and noted 100 million in new revenue could come from higher sales tax with expanded tax administration.
Bullock reminded 225000 retail businesses that July 31 is the deadline for sending in quarterly sales tax reports. Reports due cover the April May June quarter and forms were mailed in June. Delinquent reports are seen as simple oversights but carry the same legal consequences.
