Ground broken for $630000 Austin underground emergency center
Col Homer Garrison Jr announced construction of a 120-person capacity underground Texas emergency operations center in Austin. The $630000 project, funded by state and federal civil defense, is designed to withstand a 20 megaton blast and operate for about 50 days, with dormitories, kitchens, medical facilities, and independent water and power. It will replace the DPS basement control center and support the Governor's Defense Council and state police communications.
