The Harper Independent School District expands the federal Aid To Children of Needy Families lunch program starting January 4. Free or reduced price lunches will be offered to eligible students. full price is 30 to 35 cents for elementary and 40 cents for high school with five cents for extra milk. Dean Holp Hopf urges families to enroll children in the nutritious school lunch.
St Anthony's Catholic Church in Harper honored Father A A Gitter pastor since December 1930 with a Christmas party and program held in the social hall Sunday night December 20. A children's chorus and adult choir sang Christmas songs. Vernon L Herman accompanied at the organ. The Lenon Sisters of San Antonio performed several songs. Refreshments were served by church ladies.
Harper volunteers received a 40 by 40 foot deed from Walter Ottmers to expand the fire station for the new ambulance donated by Mr and Mrs W L McGinley. The ceremony included officer portraits and remarks praising Father Gitter as parish priest and longtime local service.
Harper Volunteer Fire Department held a December 8 meeting to elect officers for 1971. Officers elected include Clark Bierschewale as president Howard Sivells secretary Elbert Feller treasurer Alfred Edwards fire chief Richard Roeder assistant fire chief. Recipients thanked for past service include Charles Kerschwale and Ami Konnie Lumpkins. Public support and donations welcomed.
