Three Brothers Army Veterans Reenlist at Fort Sam Houston
Three Palmer brothers and sons of Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Palmer of Orange reenlisted in the Regular Army this week at the San Antonio Recruiting Office. Delphus Reidus and Robt Downing and Reidus Downing are on 90 day furloughs and enjoy Christmas at home. The trio, medical technicians, served overseas in separate units including Iwo Jima and Europe and were stationed at Fort Sam Houston in 1940-41. They received mustering out pay, reenlistment bonuses, ration money, and mileage payments.

Disabled voters face new $1 poll tax ruling in Texas
Texas Attorney General clarifies that several groups previously exempt from poll taxes must pay $1 annually to vote. Veterans 40 percent disabled and permanently disabled individuals now owe the tax, due by January 31, 1946, with age and service exemptions for seniors and WWII veterans noted. Other poll taxes remain at $1.75 for ages 21 to 60, payable by January 31, 1946.

Carolin Ann Roeder died Sunday December 30 1945 at age 4 years 6 months 6 days. She was born May 24 1941 to Norbert and Elizabeth Friedrich Roeder. Survived by parents two brothers Kermit and William and grandparents Willie Roeder and Mrs Friedrich. Funeral conducted by Rev T Coleman Monday December 31 at Schaetter Funeral Home. Interment in Fredericksburg Catholic Cemetery. Mr and Mrs Chester Feller of San Antonio visited relatives here.

St James Missionary Society Meets Women’s Group
The St James Women’s Missionary Society met Friday December 28 at 2 PM with 15 members and one visitor. Officers for 1946 were elected: President Mrs Raymond Spaeth, Vice President Mrs Willie Dittmar, Secretary Mrs Alf Spaeth, Treasurer Mrs Chester Itz. The Junior Mission Band held a Christmas party for 32 members and set monthly meeting for the third Sunday at 2 PM. Cookies were sent to the San Antonio Service Center.

Funeral services are set for Saturday at 2 p m in Fredericksburg for Henry Bernhard a Spring Creek farmer who died by suicide late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning His body was found by Gillespie County officers a mile and a half from home The coroner ruled death by own action His wife Martha Klaehn Bernhard had killed herself the prior Friday Grief over her death is believed to have contributed to his act He will be buried at the Fredericksburg city cemetery from Beckmann Funeral Home. Mrs Bernhard born July 4 1896 was 49 years 5 months 24 days at death Married February 23 1923 in Fredericksburg. See obituary page 4.

Hill Country Boys Livestock Show Draws Large Entries
The 1946 Hill Country Boys Livestock Show in Kerrville drew 218 entrants from Kerr and nearby counties. A total of 66 beef cattle 102 goats 441 sheep and lambs 15 dairy cattle 46 hogs 77 capons and 26 turkeys were entered for competition with events scheduled for February 22 and 23. The Kerr County Livestock Shows Association directs the show with support from local chambers clubs and business groups. Prize money totals 1000 with 800 in breeding classes and 300 donated for fat classes plus 50 donations for dairy and turkey divisions from local sponsors.
