National Guard Burglarized In Fredricksburg Theftive M16 Heist
Burglars struck the Texas National Guard building on Harper Highway in Fredricksburg on Saturday night using an acetylene torch to cut a 20 inch square hole in a Mosler safe door. They stole 44 M16 rifles with firing pins removed and some ammunition, leaving five other machine guns untouched. The theft was discovered at 7 am Sunday by Sgt. Ted Stehling who alerted FBI agent Joe Butler, the sheriff, and local police. The guard unit at the time held drill sessions with Lt. Milton Jung recovering from injuries. The weapon stash was inside a vault, accessed via pad locks and chains, with exit possible through interior doors. The incident marks the first burglary of the local National Guard building since its 1962-63 construction on Alfred Hennig property near Barons Creek. Authorities link similar thefts to larger national patterns, noting prior arrests in Killeen and Little Rock.

Schoolchild Accident Insurance Grows in Popularity
A schoolchild policy issue arises when accidents occur on the route from school to home. A boy detours to accompany a friend on a shopping errand and suffers a fall, prompting question of coverage under the student accident policy. Burglary details mention tools left behind after a break-in.
Buried policy cases shape school accident coverage
In Harper Texas a company admits coverage only if the injury occurs while going directly home from school. Courts allow slight deviations for children but deny protection when movement is far off. Other cases hinge on policy wording and school hours versus home location. Written by Will Bernard. 1970
