Refugee pastor Leopold Bluerdan to start anew in America
Leopold Bluerdan, born Jewish in Germany, once a 4100-worker in a restaurant and later a Lutheran Christian, fled Nazi oppression to Shanghai, then was sent back to Germany. Lutheran Resettlement Service with Avon Massachusetts units plans to bring him to the United States in January 1952, as pastors from many denominations begin nationwide preaching missions and refugee aid efforts coordinated by church groups and government agencies.
