House Approves Highway Plans for Postwar Modernization
Washington November 29. The House approved a 1.673 billion federal program to modernize postwar highways. Texas would receive about 30 million annually. The bill contemplates a scenic drive to Big Bend National Park and a 60 mile link from Alpine to US Highway 90. Rep. Thomason cited 12.75 million for park access roads and other park road provisions. The plan divides 500 million annual road funds among federal aid highways, secondary and farm to market roads, and park projects.
