Texas faces tax and safety pushes across state policy
State officials weigh an ad valorem reform to tax vehicles at $1.50 per $100, with funds split to schools and cities for road work, while a public hearing will gauge support. Convict labor studies, safety drives, hurricane Carla energy impacts, and looming education costs prompt lawmakers to consider new tax measures ahead of 1963. Polio drives continue amid a 176-case season with six recent paralytic cases in West Texas.
