Harper’s Baptist and Catholic congregations invite all to Sunday School at 10:00 a.m. Worship at 11:00 a.m. Evening service at 8:00 p.m. Brotherhood meeting held each first and third Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. All are welcome.
Gillespie County Soil and Water Conservation District reports Marcus Rode reduced shin oak in two pastures using heavy goat grazing over four to five years. Rested rangeland improved grasses like sideoats grama while cross fencing and a 3000 foot livestock water pipeline enhanced grazing efficiency. Also mentions clover grazing benefits and a netillage workshop.
The Hill Country Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts will gather in Junction Monday at 10 a.m. for its annual meeting led by G. R. Kothmann. Highlights include resolutions for the Dallas State Association meeting and a briefing by Joe Antilley and Ed E. Thomas on SCS programs.

Simon Cosper of Orange Texas spent the weekend at Liverston Shipyards with his wife who remained longer. Mrs Roy Cottle returned from visiting her sons Carroll and Howerd Cottle and attended her grandson Bobby Cottle’s wedding to Nancy Brown in Rocksprings. Mrs Forest Strentz of Kerrville drove Mrs Cottle home later. The Cottle group visited Mead Roy Raymond Cottle with Archie Lenson V A Cottle and Pete Casper. Chester Tatsch returned from Canada while Mr and Mrs Chester Dieter and two children visited Rev and Mrs Parker. Dennis Bernhardt’s small son spent the weekend with his grandparents Mr and Mrs Cheeter Bernhardt.
Gillespie County Fair Grounds announces major improvements ahead of the annual fair. A new sound system by Lester Behrends is installed to replace the old setup. Paving at Fourth of July work finished, dust eliminated, cattle washing facilities expanded for hogs, and improved access from Exhibition Hall to concessions. Texas Oldest County Fair aims to be the biggest and best yet.
Gillespie County Fair reports strong interest with beef cattle entries over 190 while calling for more stall space. LaWanda and I recently moved to Fredericksburg and Gillespie County and appreciate the warm welcome from the community. If help is needed, call us.
Frank Tolbert, Dallas News columnist and cofounder of the Terlingua Chili Cookout, visits the Radio Post editor to discuss the event. The world championship cookoff returns November 8 and 9 with expected crowds. a prior chili contest occurred near Los Angeles. Tolbert authored Bowl of Red in 1967.
The County Tax Assessor Collector reports vehicles registered in the past week from August 12 to August 19. Listings include various 1960s model cars such as Ford, Chevrolet, Plymouth, and Pontiac with owners from multiple towns and states, including Henry J. Itri J. W. Coonrod Myrtle Bartel Comfort and others.
The note thanks the Harper Volunteer Fire Department Ed Walker for bulldozing equipment and others who helped burn off weeds and dry grass at our property on a Saturday a week ago.
