Joe L. Tatum announces details for the 61st Gillespie Co Fair with two weeks to go. The Livestock Department offers trophies and cash premiums for top Hereford and Aberdeen Angus cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, and Angora goats, plus new classes and rosettes for winning pairs and standout animals.
Swine classes award first through sixth with cash for top four and a trophy for outstanding hog. Open to several breeds with lard and bacon hogs shown separately. Horses have two divisions Palomino and Quarter Horses with ribbons, cash to top two and a trophy for outstanding horse. FFA 4-H boys fat lambs give ribbons and cash to top four plus a lamb trophy. Poultry expands to chickens turkeys ducks geese pigeons bantams with singles and pens, fryers categories pay cash through eighth place. Agriculture exhibits follow former year classes with increased prize money and many communities expected. Exhibitors receive passes to care for animals daily. Catalogs available from multiple officials and chambers.
A proficient panel will judge agriculture livestock and poultry entries at the 61st Gillespie Fair with scheduled judging Friday and Saturday. Judges include J A Gray and others. entries due by Aug 18 and livestock by 9 am Friday.
