Fourteen 4-H Boys Return From En Campment at Brownwood
Gillespie county 4-H group of 30 with County Agent H F Grote enjoyed a beneficial encampment July 7 to 9 at Brownwood Lake. Fredericksburg National Bank and Harry Leitz aided the trip. Our county won the district softball championship among 21 counties. Team members included Ewin Baethge Harold RUse nberger Roy Weinheimer Clemens Rode Victor Arlitt Harold Kneese Daniel Neffendorf Alfred Ahrens Jr Chas Grona Calvin Weinheimer Norman Wilke. Harold Rusenberger earned a gold medal in a rifle contest against 400 boys, finishing first after placing fourth last year. Rifles were .22, targets at 50 feet with a small center.

Dove Seasons Indefinite As State Sets Early Opening Rules
The Texas Game Commission executive secretary says firm dove season dates cannot be released until federal mourning and white wing dove rules arrive. State seasons begin September in most areas with various regional start dates and hunting days. In southwest Texas the season runs September 15 to October 15 with limited hunting days, and daily bag limits remain twelve birds.

N C Bradshaw an economist from Texas A and M Agricultural Experiment Station notes McLennan County has over 80 percent surfaced roads enabling all weather access and lower per mile transport costs. The county uses gravel asphalt and concrete with 1 227 miles surfaced of which 930 are gravel and 290 miles asphalt.
