Desmond Sagehiel Named Outstanding Conservation Rancher
Desmond Sagehiel, a longtime district cooperator and leader in Gillespie County soil and water conservation, developed a 1949 plan on 496 acres and expanded with 936 more in Llano County. He uses coastal bermuda and experimental sprigging, runs sheep goats and cattle, and advocates deer welfare with grazing and brush control. He testified in Austin for deer harvest legislation and led range tours and field days as a conservation supervisor from 1958 to 1963, earning recognition by 1963.
