USO centers encourage sailors and soldiers to go to church in pairs or groups to maintain spiritual life while away from home. Trucks and clergymen are arranged at many centers to provide vesper and evening services at the clubhouses during the week, aiming to give troops civilian-life worship opportunities.
The Harpster Herald lists updated addresses and new names of Gillespie County boys serving in Army Navy Air Corps and Marines. Readers submitted corrections after last week’s plea, with several changes in addresses and additional entries from the past week.
New England born agricultural missionary Dr Brayton Case of the Northern Baptist Convention in Burma has long led a world famous agricultural training school. He braves danger from Japanese bombers to grow vegetables for victory and sends cabbages hogs and other foods to Chinese troops aiding British and Burmese forces.
The Doss Improvement Club met on Saturday night April 18 with twenty four members answering roll. The program included a Long Assembly Reading led by Norma Baethge.
Parish announces Sunday Masses at 10 30 Central War Time with an early Communion Mass at 9 on the third Sunday and feast days. Weekday Masses follow eight o'clock bells. Parish Societies meet after the 10 30 Mass and Sunday School follows. Stations of the Cross Friday nights at 8 15 during Lent.
The Friendly Church led by Rev. T. H. Alcorn lists Sunday school at 10 a.m. with H. H. Fairchild as superintendent. Morning service at 11, evening service at 7:16. W. M. A. meets Mondays at 3 p.m. Prayer and teachers meetings Wednesdays at 7:15 p.m. G A and RA meet Fridays at 7:15 p.m.
Miss Lela Rosenbusch daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Rosenbusch married Reinnald Weber on Saturday at seven o'clock in the Doss parsonage with Rev. J. M. Bergner officiating. Attendants were Miss Ruby Miller and Leroy Rosenbusch. After a short wedding trip the couple will reside in Fredericksburg where the groom works.
A motion approved a road construction committee to assist Commissioner Nixon in securing the right of way from Kramer's ranch to Mason highway. Members named Sam Rode Emil Strackbein and Albert F Elebracht. Kramer offers to donate his side and hopes for adjacent parcels to be obtained to straighten the road for miles.
