Hy-Vee will reopen the fire damaged Harlan store within 60 days and a new Hy-Vee will be built in southwest Harlan by mid to late summer 1988. Ron Pearson, president of Hy-Vee Food Stores, announced the plan during his inspection of the Spring Street site. Insurance estimates place inventory losses at about 275000 dollars and structure costs at 100000 dollars with further repair and cleanup expenses. The company aims to restock immediately and reopen the existing store about January with the new 22000 square foot facility adding 25 to 35 jobs, a bakery, delicatessen, enlarged produce, and a 50 percent increase in variety.
