Mammography meeting set for Tuesday in Harlan
An informational meeting on mammography will be held at 7 30 p m Tuesday May 20 in the Harlan National Bank community room. The Myrrle Memorial Hospital now has a mammography unit funded by a 75000 gift from Wilmer and Lucille Petersen in memory of Eunice Petersen. Dr Linda Head will present a 60 to 90 minute program. The event is free and reservations are not required. Call 755 5161 to help plan attendance.

Irwin-Kirkman High fundraisers aid Washington trip
Irwin Kirkman High School nascent National History Day team plans two fundraisers on May 17 to cover costs for their June 15 to 22 Washington visit. Funeral services for former Harlan attorney and Iowa Democratic Party chairman Jake More will be held at 10 a.m. today at Dunn's Funeral Home in Des Moines with graveside rites at 1 p.m. at Harlan Cemetery. More, 82, died Saturday evening May 10, 1986, after a cancer illness at Luther Park Health Center. He was known as Mr. Democrat for leading Iowa Democrats from 1941 to 1958 and delivering Iowa to Truman in 1948. He was a prominent figure and mentor in party circles with extensive service to Harlan and Shelby County.
