Grulke trial delayed. venue moved for misappropriation case
Shelby County District Court delayed the February 19 trial of Lavonne Grulke a 65 year old former Harlan Community School District secretary amid a continuance request and a venue change granted this week. The trial location and new date will be set later. Grulke faces ten criminal charges related to about 230000 in school funds and is named in a civil suit filed by the district alongside her daughter Gloria Miner.

Iowa Beer and Liquor Control Department's 51st annual report shows Harlan and Avoca stores turning profits for the year ending June 30 1985 despite declines in net sales. Harlan posted 445 566 in net sales with 113 279 net income while Avoca earned 23 910 net income on 190 862 sales. Manilla posted 62 490 sales, a 3 183 rise, but its gross profit 289 019 and expenses 41 688 led to a net loss of 13 649. Harlan's share totals and context indicate 36- percent of the store mix.

Burglar to be transferred to Iowa Parole Board to decide
Timothy Kenneth Ueland a 33 year old Minneapolis man who pled guilty to second degree burglary and attempted second degree burglary in December 1983 will appear before the Iowa Parole Board in late March. He is nearing completion of a 25 month Minnesota sentence and will be transferred from Stillwater State Penitentiary to the Iowa processing center at Oakdale for the board to determine where his Harlan crimes will be served.

Shelby County State Bank would merge Shelby County Bank in Harlan and State Bank of Portsmouth under a single name. In 1985 the two banks posted favorable earnings with combined deposits of 81 million and capital over 9.4 million.
