Shelby school chief seeks city manager post in Council Bluffs
Ronald G. Wagner, superintendent of the Shelby Tennant Community Schools, is among 48 applicants for Council Bluffs city manager per the April 8 Nonpareil. Wagner arrived in Shelby-Tennant in January 1985 and resigns from the school board effective June 30. Council Bluffs received 64 applications. 16 withdrew when told names would be released to media.

Food Pantry in Harlan Seeks Community Help
Shelby County pantry board member Dave Koos announced needs including crackers sugar shortening spaghetti cooked cereals canned meats canned fruits and cake mixes. Items can be dropped at the West Central Development Corp office in Harlan or at church collection areas. The pantry aided 68 families in six months and a bank balance was set to buy perishables. It’s going smoothly but some in need are not asking for help.

Harlan Community High School shows a record 20 member delegation headed to Des Moines for the three day FFA convention April 17 19 with funding from FFA Alumni and Shelby County Fair Association totaling 530 dollars. Donations announced at the annual banquet include 410 from FFA Alumni and 120 from the County Fair Association.

The fourth annual Health Fair of the Midlands runs April 12 to 20 at 30 sites in eastern Nebraska and southwestern Iowa with a Harlan event at Vets' Auditorium on April 19 from 7 30 a m to 12 30 p m. Sponsors include American Red Cross and KMTV 3. The fair offers glaucoma testing oral exam blood chemistry screening at 15 dollars with eight hour fasting plus other services. last year 11 000 people were screened including 500 in Harlan and 2 000 received follow up care.

Tri-Center post prom to feature night of games and prizes
Tri-Center High School parents sponsor a post prom Saturday night from 1 30 to 6 a m at Minden Community Hall with carnival Las Vegas style games a large prize auction and door prizes. Organizers seek donations of money prizes or food and list contact names and the high school address for contributions. The Shelby County Fair greenhouse project will receive a donation, and the FFA Alumni runs the main food booth fundraiser. Harlan FFA Alumni awarded retiring officers and numerous awards were presented at the 1985 86 banquet with officers for 1986 87 named.
