Three Harlan men touring Arkansas for a golf trip were injured when their vehicle lost control near Fairfield Bay. The driver Terry Cox and passenger Paul Goeser were hurt. Goeser was ejected and taken to a Little Rock hospital with elbow and head injuries. Dean Thielen sustained minor injuries. The vehicle flipped after hitting loose gravel and later returned to the road.
Alfred Stessman 88 a Earling resident died Friday April 3 1987 at Little Flower Haven. Services were held Monday April 6 at Panama St Marys Catholic Church with burial in Panama St Marys Cemetery. Survived by wife Beatrice two sons Alvin Panama and William Charlotte NC three daughters Bernice Gaul Earling Margaret Walsh Missouri Valley and Ethel Heller Portsmouth along with 24 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Also three brothers Ted Omaha Leo Missouri Valley and Robert Des Moines and five sisters Antonette Croghan Montibello CA The wake was at Pauley Funeral Home Harlan.
Leona C. Johnson, 77, native of Avoca, died Friday March 13 1987 at Cass County Memorial Hospital Atlantic after a heart attack. Services were Monday April 6 at Trinity Lutheran Church Avoca with burial in Graceland Cemetery. She lived in Atlantic, worked in the funeral business, and was a Tennant Jack graduate. five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Berthusen Knutson Funeral Home arranged in Avoca.
Karen Wehr 42 of Harlan died March 6, 1987 at St. Joseph's Hospital Omaha. Services set for 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Church Harlan with burial in Harlan Cemetery. Wake services 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 p.m. tonight at Pauley Funeral Home. Survived by husband Larry two sons John Valley Center Kan Brian Harlan and mother Luella Hendricks Portsmouth.
Harold Rold 77 of Harlan will have services at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pauley Funeral Home in Harlan. He died Monday April 6, 1987 at Myrrle Memorial Hospital in Harlan.

Lonnie Wilson of the Harlan Police reports entry through the main office, with a Chevrolet van involved and up to $1000 reward for tips.

Police report Beverly Parkhurst of 501 Tenth St Harlan was bitten by a Doberman at 8 05 p m Monday April 6 at the intersection of Twelfth and Hill Streets. She was treated at Myrrle Memorial Hospital for injuries to the lower leg and left wrist and released. The dog was located and held by police Tuesday morning.
Police report three crashes in Harlan including a 10:55 am collision near Myrrle Memorial Hospital involving a 1977 Chevrolet driven by Duane Field and an 1984 Mercury driven by Elizabeth Hansen. Damages around $1,500 per vehicle. A second crash at 4:40 pm on Durant Streets involved a 1985 Chevrolet and a 1977 Chevrolet with minor damage. A third incident in the Hy-Vee lot saw a 1971 Oldsmobile back into a 1979 Oldsmobile. about $200 damage.
Harlan volunteers responded to two calls last weekend. Fire Chief Tom Ouren said at 8:30 p.m. firefighters were summoned to the Louis Rosmann farm four miles west of Harlan after a passerby reported a fire. stumps and timber were burning but no assistance was needed. Later, at a car fire in the Earl May Garden Center parking lot, a battery cable shorted and began to smoke. no fire remained on arrival. The car owner was Ron Lefeber of Harlan.
