Harlan Hosts Iowa’s First Flight Breakfast Event
Crowd gathered as Marlan hosted one of its largest breakfasts Sunday with about 180 planes registered from the Midwest. Over 500 served cafeteria style starting at 6 30 a m. The program, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the 8 Ball aviation club, marked Iowa’s first flight breakfast. See pictures in Friday's issue.

Collision at county road intersection injures youths
A northbound truck driven by 23 year old Victor N. Doonan of Harlan collided with an eastbound car driven by 16 year old Roger Christensen at a county road intersection south of Jacksonville. Christensen's parents were in the car.

Extension Home Program Six Subjects for Year
Members of the Extension Home Program planning Family Living Committee met at the REA building on Monday May 13 to map the coming year. The program will cover seven topics including main dishes with protein needs, finishing touches to home sewed dresses, child development, pest control, holiday centerpieces, personal grooming, and a year-end summary with open house booths. The American Legion Post sponsors the annual Kid's Day in Harlan on Friday starting at 12 45 p.m. with a parade from the high school corner. Prizes for costumes and pets, games on the city square, a free movie at the Harlan Theatre, and five cent ride tickets redeemable later. Rain date is Friday June 14.

Eugene Petsche 17 Buried After Heart Condition In Iowa
Eugene Petsche 17 oldest son of Mr and Mrs Tony Petsche of near Portsmouth was buried Monday after services at Our Lady of Fatima church. He died in Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs early Saturday morning after about three weeks as a patient. He had been in good health until around Christmas time and was hospitalized briefly then released. Survived by his parents three brothers two sisters and many relatives. Services were in charge of Pauley’s Funeral Home.
