Veteran Luther Devendorf Laid To Rest At Local Service
Luther A. Devendorf state vice commander of the Grand Army of the Republic for Town was buried with services Sunday at the Methodist church led by Rev Rice in Rev Mitchell’s absence. He loved Civil War comrades and spoke for patriotism, attended all G A R meetings, and knew many across the country. Representa tives of Civil Spanish American and World War groups joined his funeral cortege with a squad from the Legion at the grave. He served in Company G Ninth Wisconsin Cavalry during the Civil War and later moved to a farm near his youth. The church was full and burial followed in the local cemetery. He was survived by his widow a daughter Mrs Travelle Pelick four sons Frank Wilkes Barre George Charles and Irvin plus one sister Mrs Elizabeth Beach Des Moines.
