Eldora Wins Both Games In Conrad Showdown

Eldora teams traveled to Conrad Saturday and swept both games. Girls won 29 to 22 with Constance Davis scoring 27 and Ruth Oldenberg 2. boys won 26 to 10 led by Captain McCusker and John Urquhart. Town-Cedar League standings shown, and county tournament details including referee Starbuck of Hampton and schedule notes. Cotton Benedict Stock In Iowa Falls Under Creditors

The Des Moines Credit Men s Association controls the Cotton Benedict stock at Low Falls after C A Cotton assigned for creditors. Major creditors include Marshall Field & Co and Carson Pirie Scott of Chicago. The stock may be sold in bulk or in special sales with C A Cotton and C H Benedict connected to earlier partnerships. Eggs To California Mr and Mrs C D Martin of New Providence received a telegram from California for 500 Buff Leghorn eggs. Payment arrived by draft last Thursday, the cross country transfer completed by air mail.

District Court in Session five weeks term opens in Eldora

The district court convened for a five week term with a petit jury elected Monday. Judge Garfield will preside for the remainder of the term while Judge Sherwood A. Clock will oversee district court last week in Eldora and four divorcees were granted. Orvil Anderson pleaded guilty to larceny and received a three month jail sentence. Caroline Fowler pleads not guilty to forging charges and her case will be heard next week. Suzanne Huston, daughter of Mr and Mrs Wendell Huston, has been selected for the lead female role in the high school operetta The Fortune Teller to be staged mid April. Deputy Recorder Julia Mulford will assume duties, with Maurine Johnston replacing her at the Abstract office.

Award for Typing Speed at University Assembly

Miss Maurine Johnston of BHidora Iowa received a Royal Portable typewriter from Mr G P Johnson district manager Royal Typewriter Company at the University of Commerce auditorium. The award recognized sixty words per minute for 15 minutes, the first such honor in Des Moines and Iowa for speed and accuracy. Sherman W Needham injured his back and side after a fall on an icy sidewalk last week, but is improving though pain remains linked to a nerve to the abdominal wall.

Fire at Iowa Falls damages multiple businesses

A Wednesday night blaze in Iowa Falls destroyed the stock of the O K Grocery and heavily damaged the building with losses estimated at 5000 dollars. Smoke and water harmed the Starcafe and Cobb jewelry store in the same incident.

Citizenship Examined In Eldora Naturalization Court

Judge Clock and I H Griffin of Arkansas conducted a naturalization court in Eldora where citizenship was granted to all but one applicant. The man failed to show knowledge of Congress, the Towg Legislature, and current topics after reading a newspaper. he admitted he had not studied for the exam.

Reports show Iowa Falls farm bureau dues higher with 11 members dying and 50 moving away last year. Recalled Winters Of 1856 57 And 1880 81 In Iowa

He notes a log cabin buried in snow with a mud chimney, a 1880 81 winter when he walked over fences to a neighbor, and months with no wheel turning on the Northwestern railway Hawarden Tama division. Assault on aged lady shocks Hubbard area

Sheriff Thompson and County Attorney Cameron investigated a serious assault at Mrs. Wm. Otto's home near Hubbard. Mrs. Otto was bound and gagged by a man she believed to be Harold McCoy, but he was held for investigation on a $3000 bond. About 75 members and wives gathered at the Methodist Church dining rooms for a two course dinner hosted by the American Legion Auxiliary. Rex Bateson presided as F. D.
