M & St L Railway deal rejected by Bremner in Washington
W H Bremner president and receiver of the Minneapolis and St Louis railroad rejected a $ securities offer from Great Northern and Northern Pacific tied to a proposed merger. The plan would pay $400,000 annually in securities indefinitely. Bremner notes the rail structure law requires consolidations to unite strong and weak roads, and the Minneapolis and St Louis value exceeds $70 million with a 43 million ICC valuation for rate making. Net income rose in 1928 and 1927 recovery years, and substantial track and power upgrades are planned. The receiver says reorganization talks with New York bankers will continue.
