Drainage Hearings Scheduled in Tipton Ellis and Grant Townships

Two drainage ditch hearings are set for next week before the board of supervisors. On Tuesday a hearing will review district No 158 in Tipton and Ellis townships, while on Wednesday the board will consider establishing drainage ditch No 154 in Grant township.

Voters in Iowa Falls rejected a proposal to extend city terms to four years instead of two. The tally was 248 against and 118 in favor, ending any move to alter the regular term length.

Hubbard Attorney Accepts New Job

Harold Wippmann of Hubbard has accepted a position in the estate planning department of Mutual Life Insurance Co in Minneapolis. He has practiced with Walter B. Riordan in Hubbard since April 1949 and was a Democratic candidate for state representative in the last election. Eldora High forms forensic club led by students

Eldora High School formed a new forensic club this week, combining dramatics and speech students. Unlike last year’s similar group, this one will affiliate with a national society. Assistant Named For Kindergarten

Eldora Fall Opening Draws Record Crowd and Style Show

Eldora held its Fall Opening and Style show attracting over 3,000 spectators after afternoon showers cleared. A capacity crowd of 500 attended the first style presentation and a near full second showing. about 900 enjoyed the event. Joe Doaks and his orchestra provided music for dancing on the east side of the square. A broom dance by Frank Filbrandt, who turns 80 Friday, with a borrowed broom from Mrs. Pal Hodgson, was a highlight.

Two Greenwood Mississippi workers held in county jail on larceny and aiding in the act at Iowa Falls Illinois Central line. Eugene Brock 23 attracted a clerk while Thoston Moodhead 19 took two jackets and a suitcase from Strutz Clothing Store. Bond set at $500. Moodhead charged with larceny and Brock with aiding in the offense. both bound over to district court.

Eldora junior high council drafts bicycle storage rules and establishes a court to handle infractions. Further talks planned at the next meeting. The council seeks permission for a bonfire and a snake dance before the last home game against Grundy Center on Oct 30 at 7 30 p.m.

Busses Of 12 Schools Inspect Busses Of 12 Schools

Buses from twelve districts were examined in Eldora by the state department of public instruction and the state highway patrol. All were found in good condition with checks on bus bodies and required equipment. Drivers are urged to pass Red Cross first aid and obtain medical certificates.

Frank Peisen 77 Dies in Jasper Missouri

Frank H. Peisen 77 of Jasper Missouri died Monday night. Services were conducted in Jasper and Eldora cemetery burial followed. He was born March 28 1874 at Eldora and married Oct 9 1909 in Ames to Thressa Hayes. He operated mens furnishings in Joplin then Jasper before illness. Surviving are his wife and sister Mrs Ella Polley of Eldora plus several nieces and nephews.

Senator Hattery Talk at Gifford for Union Eldora Highway

Senator John R Hattery of Nevada will give the principal address at the final opening of the Union Eldora highway at Gifford this Friday afternoon at four o'clock. A relay cycling event from Union and Eldora precedes the program, with local officials leading the riders and a flat bed truck platform for speakers. Plan Rural Program For Fire Prevention

The Iowa Rural Fire Prevention Program for farm students will be organized in Ward in county at a meeting Thursday evening September 20 at 8 o clock in the extension office in the Eldora post office building. Injunction Sought to Stop Unattended Livestock Roaming

A district court petition filed by Vernon Joerger L W Wheeler Walie Joerger Chas W Price and Ed A Fisher requests a writ to prevent Ed Tysdahl from allowing livestock to roam unattended on highways near his Ellis township farm.
