Belly McDowell Receives WMT Conservation Award
Belly McDowell of the Mes Uetty farm received the annual WMT Soil Conservation Award at a special awards banquet on September 16. Six conservationists were honored, with remarks by Farm Service Agency officials noting this was the eleventh consecutive year for the award. McDowell has previously earned honors in conservation and contributed to a summer conservation program and field days near Midora.

Hardin-Youth dairy exhibitors at 47th Iowa dairy show
Three 4-H members from Hardin County will spend three days at the 47th annual Iowa dairy heifer show and achievement program September 20 to 22. A total of 380 registered dairy projects compete for more than $6,000 in cash and merchandise prizes at the Saturday morning show. Exhibitors from Altoona planning to participate include Dick Hea Steamboat Reck, Rick Res Elttern and Weather Schrndle, New Providence. The event runs during the first three days of the National Dairy Calf Congress in Waterloo. A Saturday awards lunch will feature the presentation of the 1968 state champion dairy club member and other breed winners.

The first regular meeting of the Mordin County Association for Retarded Children was held at Murphy's Custodial Home in Eldora with a potluck dinner. President Ray Kline of Alden led the meeting and the 1969 budget was reviewed and approved. The Hardin County Fair booth results were reviewed and next year's fair project planned. The October ARC meeting will be in Iowa Falls with the place to be announced.

Operation Edith Plans Underway in Town
Final plans are being made for the second annual state wide free vacua Hon drill. The plan called Operation Edith has expanded over two years to include all counties with most families participating.
