Eldora Eastern Star to mark 60th anniversary dinner

Eldora’s Eastern Star will celebrate six decades of service with a dinner and meeting at the Masonic hall. Honorary guest Mrs. Nell Bonnell of Fort Dodge and Worthy Grand Matron Mrs. Margaret Merrick of Marble Rock are expected, with early members highlighted and long-time members noted. The event precedes a citywide BPW led effort on Oct. 20 to place women in city offices and stores, with Troy Studio to photograph participants.

Eight County Races Slated For General Election

The Hardin County Index outlines eight county races on the November 2 general election ballot. Highlights include state representative candidates Paul M. Walter Republican and Paul M. Dages Host To 378th Reunion Sunday

Mr and Mrs Curtis Daggs of El Idora host the first reunion of the 378th Engineer Battalion Sunday at Pine Lake lodge. Daggs served with the 278th in Korea in 1950 1951. Forty five invitations mailed, with a good turnout expected from towns in Minnesota Nebraska and Michigan. some arrivals anticipated Saturday.

Fire Prevention Program Set At Courthouse Here

Eldora volunteers host annual fire prevention week in the courthouse courtroom next Wednesday at 8 pm. Public attendance is free. Children's poster contest winners will be announced and awarded. Attorney Yivian Lundy will speak. A fire prevention film and Lynn Freed Trio music are planned.

Burns Purchases Chesnut Barber Shop

Robert Burns of Eldora takes over the Chesnut Barber Shop effective today. Burns has been a barber in Eldora for 29 years and was previously employed by Chesnut. He began barbering for Robert Toad in 1925. Chesnut will continue working in the shop.

Rotary and 75-Year Club Dinner Draws 100 Plus Attendees

More than 100 Rotary members and Hardin county 75 Year Club members attended the Pine Lake Country Club dinner meeting. Speakers included Mrs C. E. Greer of Eldora, founder of the three-quarter century club, who reviewed her European tour. Sixty named guests joined 41 members of the 75 Year Club. the eldest present was 97 year old Mrs Ella C. Hoover and 93 year old Mrs J. A. Landis followed. Twelve new members were admitted during the year and seven members died, including Miss Amanda Walton and Mrs Maria Panthen.

Iowa State Training School will start three contracts for a school addition a new kitchen dining building and plumbing heating and wiring work. Farm Bureau Meeting Scheduled in Eldora

Thrift Buck awards change after last week draw

The Grundy county W C T U met yesterday at the Methodist church in Grundy Center. A basket dinner was served at noon. The afternoon program featured special music a white ribbon service and a temperance movie.

Radcliffe Rites For A E Lee 65

Funeral services were held Monday at Zion Lutheran church for Alfred C. Lee 65 who died at his home near Garden City after a long illness. He lived in Radcliffe and Garden City on a farm and was survived by his wife Emma Vallum eight children two daughters seven surviving siblings and a sister. Interment followed at the church cemetery with Rev Perry S Heller presiding.

Cuke Man Sets Village Record with Huge Cucumber

J. C. Clingerman of northwest New Providence raised a giant cucumber last week. The fruit measured 12 inches in circumference, 15 inches long and weighed about sight pounds, marking his biggest yield to date.

Buckeye Farmer Found Dead In Garage At Home

William Carstens a 64 year old Buckeye farmer was found dead in a garage at his farm home one mile past Buckeye Wednesday morning by his wife. Sheriff Hodgson investigated in the absence of coroner W A Johnson. The body was taken to C G Scott Funeral Home in Alden.

Voters To Decide Formation Of Enlarged Union Whitten District
