Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock for Abraham Berend Harm Jaspers born December 28 184 in Clay township Hardin county Iowa. He died November 7 and is survived by his widow son John Eldora daughter Lois Wellsburg ten grandchildren and a sister. Interment was in Steamboat Rock Cemetery. The Andrl and Creps Funeral Home of Eldora handled arrangements.
Members of the Eldora Chamber of Commerce Christmas retail committee will convene at 8 a.m. on Monday November 18 at the Chamber of Commerce office in Eldora.
Phyllis A. Brown of Ackley received a divorce from Dennis L. Brown of Iowa Falls in Hardin County District Court. Judge Paul E. Hellwege granted alimony and a property settlement. The Eldora Chamber of Commerce dinner honoring both new and old boards is set for Thursday December 12 at 7 30 p.m. at Pine Lake Country Club.
Rites held Wednesday at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg for Sander DeNeul who died Sunday in Grundy Center. The Rev John Hollenbass officiated with music by Harold Okones and Wilbore Koock. organist Mrs Koock and pianist Mrs Ray Toomsen. Interment in Shiloh Cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home in charge. DeNeul, born August 16, 1896 in Hardin County, married Rena Hook in 1922. their son Maynard survives with two granddaughters and a grandson. He served in World War I, later worked auto repair and lawn mower sales, and was active in veterans groups and as justice of the peace. Surviving relatives include siblings and a large extended family.
The State Tax Commission ordered a complete reassessment of all real estate in 19 counties including Hardin. The three step process lists property, front foot valuation, and grading to determine fair market value. Reassessments occur every four years with farm land increases of 6 and residential lots up 2.55 percent cited.
Mrs. Jessie Uhlken’s white blue eyed Persian named Marshmallow won four champion ribbons three rosettes and two trophies at the Waterton Cat Show last weekend. She plans to enter the two year old at the Omaha Cat Show on November 30 and December 4.
The Eldora Thespsisn Troop will perform David and Lisa Friday, Nov. 15 at Mason City High School. The play follows two emotionally troubled teens who fall in love, offering a lens into mental disturbance and adolescence.
A nutrition leader training session led by Mrs. Mary Anne Gibson of the Hardin County extension office staff is planned for Monday, November 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the First National Bank community room in Eldora. Two additional sessions will be held on later dates.
