New Providence Community Activities Report

The New Providence Church hosted a Thursday potluck in the church basement. Mary Glen Hadley, a graduate nurse doing missionary work in Africa, showed slides of her work. UNICEF drive by eighth grade and younger Sunday School children raised about 93 dollars, the largest ever. Honey Creek Farmers Union met at the New Providence schoolhouse with R W Welden and Bob Ohlsen as speakers and officers elected including President J Hadiev and Vice President Marvin Drure. Larry Greg moved to Waverly for work. Garden Club met with Mrs Enos Pembert. program included bars and bread. Wages of neighbors and friends gathered for Wrath Hubbard funeral at Waterloo with burial at Hubbard Cemetery. A birthday gathering for Mrs Maude Knowles was held at her home. Carol Bogue of Marshalltown visited parents in New Providence. Mrs Richard Blair and Mike Voy visited the Clay home in Eldora. Mrs Thomas Hagen checked in at the Beasley residence.

Final Rites Held For Adele Johnson

Adele Caroline Johnson died October 29 in Steamboat Rock. Funeral held at First Baptist Church with Rev. Elton Kirstein officiating. Burial in Steamboat Rock Cemetery. Survived by daughter Louise McKillip and son-in-law Bob McKillip, granddaughters Karen Bowers and Diane Charlton, great grandson Michael Edward Bowers, sister Natalie Methfessel, sisters-in-law Julia Johnson and Ethel Johnson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband Louis G. Johnson died in 1965. Adele had long church activity and community involvement.
