A fragmented listing of local May 24 weekend events including World War I items, gatherings at multi purpose centers, Rainbow assembly and installation activities, Memorial Day observances, and club meetings. Names and places are partially legible with multiple dates in May and ongoing community schedules.
The Union Denny Pais 4-H Club honored their mothers at a special meeting May 18 at the Community Church. Eight members were present with guests in attendance for the event.
Front row features Nancy Callaway as first vice president Betty Holder as president Linda Williams as second vice president. Ruth Reece, retiring president, installed them. The May 14 ceremony included cor secretary Mary Reintarge Majiel Pat Whitmer and recording secretary.
Open Fire meets to elect officers with names including Elvin Adams Ruth Perkins J K Runyon Gersid Dreier Florence North Margaret Berg and others. The June 17 session is set for 2:30 pm at Blanche and Tea Room. Myr Soliday attended the May 16 Lutherans Marys Mission circle at Amanda Stehe’s home.
Thirty guests attended a miscellaneous bridal shower for Miss Kathy Risius of Union May 8 at her aunt Mrs. George Hallett's home in Gifford. Assisting hostesses were Mrs. Leonard Peters and Mrs. Loren Peters, both aunts of the honoree. A corsage of yellow baby roses was given to Miss Risius. Shower games were played and Miss Linda Kolthoff, the bride’s cousin, helped at the gift table. The centerpiece featured praying angels with smilax and lighted tapers. Mrs. Gerald Risius and Mrs. Dave Miller served. Miss Risius will wed Randy Wunschel June 1 at the Bangor Friends Church.
The American Home II Progressive Meal closed with courses at three homes Mrs Kenneth Van Bulle hosted appetizers while salad and main were at Mrs David Mazurik and dessert at Mrs Loren Goodknight. Committee members Eldon Weld Vernon Paul Howard Clingerman Glenn Gatenby assisted. Business brought disposals and new officers assumed duties. program for 1974 75 discussed. Club recess until September.
Mr and Mrs Andy of Omaha welcomed Kenneth John on May 1 1974 with grandparents John Phillips Cedar Falls and Maxine Cattle Eldora. Christina Martie Pence arrived the same day a 9 pound 10 ounce girl with Jeff also part of the family. Grandparents Bud Groeteveld Melvin Pence Eldora. Great grandparents Idella Sutherland Albion Tillie Groetheveld Eldora and Guy Stover.
A reception for Mrs. May Martin of New Providence was held May 19 in the Fellowship Room of the Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church to honor her 90th birthday on May 20. Her five children attended from New Providence Union Dayton Ohio Havelock and Odenton Maryland plus guests presided at the refreshment table.
Mrs Doug Slater and son Robert Douglas of Des Moines were honored at a May 18 baby shower at the Jess Reece home in New Providence. Hostesses included Mrs Reece Mrs Dennis Reece Miss Peggy Reece and Mrs Lewis Harrell. About 15 guests from New Providence Union Eldora and Iowa Falls attended. Grandmothers Mrs Howard Fuller and Mrs Allan Slater and great grandmother Mrs Ruth Fuller also participated.
Seventy five guests gathered at the Wendell Clark home to honor Cindy Clark as she graduates Eldora High School. Tom Donner hosted open house for son Tom, with relatives from Iowa Falls Ames Waterloo and Des Moines. Sara Mann was feted after Steamboat Rock High School commencement with guests from Wellsburg Grundy Center and more. Denise Gast Alan Gast and Gary Crosser celebrated Steamboat Rock seniors with regional relatives. Gloria Lewis and Becky Minteer joined multiple receptions honoring local grads. Daniel Wiechmann Jr earned Drake Law Doctor of Jurisprudence with family present and plans to join Gilchrist firm in Hampton.
