A 1885 notice notes a wheel barrow sociable hosted by the Ladies of the Congrega tional church at Judge Porser’s home on April 1. It also reports local items including Clyde Muir’s fatal injury, the aging parishioner’s health, and school and post office developments in the area.

Mrs Carl Lawrenz Mrs Henry Littschwager were visitors in the William Rastetter home Thursday afternoon. Sunday dinner guests in the Rastetter home included Mes Kennedy Curtis Augusta Crosser Mrs Bilauitschwager and Mrs Joe Rastetter. Wednesday afternoon visitors in the Eda Groser home included Mrs Carl Lawrenz and Mrs Alfred Raska and Joyce.
Farmers and landowners in Eldora can now place orders for trees and shrubs with the Soil Conservation Service and Extension Service. Cost sharing through Iowa programs covers up to 80 percent of costs to $45 per acre for erosion control plantings. Species listed include Austrian pine red pine white pine and green ash with several ornamental varieties and fruit trees available. Two tree planers are available in the county to assist planting demonstrations and projects.
Gifford residents hosted a 09 card party with prizes for both men and ladies and shared home made ice cream. Multiple guests visited through the week including the Hadley and Seim households, bereavement assistance for the Coen Lange family, and various Sunday dinners and afternoon visits at the homes of Schrable, Hackney, Steelman, Estes, and Wilson families.
