Eldora Wins to Reach Town State Semi Finals

Eldora defeated Valley High of Des Moines 88 to 76 to advance to the semifinals of the 1056 Town state girls basketball tournament in Des Moines. The Berettes set an all time tournament scoring record and will play Friday night winner of Garrison versus New Sharon for a shot at the championship. Eldora led 45-43 at halftime and 21-18 after the first quarter.

Eldora girls beat Valley High of West Des Moines in the quarterfinals earning tickets for Friday and Saturday sessions. A Des Moines caravan is planned Sunday to escort the team home, with sales closing at noon in Eldora.

Eldora firemen were called to the George Bakker farm about seven miles east of Eldora Tuesday morning. The roof fire was extinguished before they arrived, with no further damage reported.

Special Day In District Court For 320 Students

About 320 Hardin county high school seniors attended a special district court day in Eldora. The mock case centered on an automobile accident with Kenneth Brock as defendant and Jerry Clevalang as plaintiff. Jurors were drawn from six schools while attorneys included William Dunn Gene Ackerman Bob McGreevy Allan Oppen and Judge Harvey Uhlenhopp oversaw the proceedings.

Open House Planned for Eldora Elementary Building

Patrons in the Eldora school district may tour the new $376,253 elementary school Monday evening from 7 to 9 30 p.m. Hosts Paul J. Simons and the board of education, with Eldora Citizens' Committee, will guide tours of the 18 classroom facility featuring modern kitchen, RCA intercom, air conditioning, and a 400 seat multi-purpose room.

Red Cross survey in Eldora by St. Louis agent

Mary Mackin a Red Cross field representative from St. Louis Missouri visited Eldora on Monday to survey Red Cross work in the southern half of the county. She has been in Iowa about three weeks and covers 15 counties in her current assignment.

Award $75,000 In Damage Suit In Iowa Falls Case

Donald Cox, 97, of Iowa Falls, was awarded 76,000 by a Minneapolis court against Rock Island Railroad for injuries from a 490 pound freight car door that fell at the Ralston Purina plant in Iowa Falls in April 1954. He had sued for 125,000 and said he can only do light work. The district court jury returned the verdict. Cox was represented by John P. Whitesell and Walter Riorden.
