Harmon To Build Addition For New Grocery

Walter Harmon and Curtis Harmon, operators of Harmon's Standard Oil Service Station on East Edgington Avenue, announced Tuesday plans to build an addition to the station. The project aims to expand services at the existing site and attract more customers.

Walt's Grocery Planned Near Current Building

A new grocery to the north of the existing building will use the service station entrance. The business, named Walt's Grocery, will measure 20 by 22 feet and is expected to open soon with contractor Leslie Vinton from Eldora starting work next week.

Sherbon Merle Leased his Eldora barber shop to Juchem Juchems and will devote full time to farming. He runs a dairy farm between Eldera and Steamboat Rock and has operated the barber business in the area for 15 years.

Club Pool Pledges Reach $20,000 With Vote Friday Night

Pine Lake Country Club plans a Friday 8 p.m. meeting at Eldora clubhouse to seek member authorization for a 20 000 pool project north of the parking lot. The fan shaped 20 by 60 by 3 8 foot pool with blue tile top, filtering system, and diving board could start July 1 and be ready by early September pending pledges and member approval.

Rotary Votes $100 For Flood Relief

The Eldora Rotary club approved a $100 donation to the South Hardin County Red Cross chapter for flood relief in the state. Members were urged to give individually as well. Donations may be left at Hardin County Savings Bank.

Hardin County Among Iowa Counties Named For Federal Flood Aid

Washington dispatch reports Hardin county listed with 18 Iowa counties eligible for federal flood relief. Franklin and Hamilton nearby are named among counties allowed to seek federal funds for repair of roads and other public works with no set funding limit. Eisenhower telegraphed Gov Beardsley that disaster area designation covers those affected by the floods. President called the action to permit federal assistance to supplement local efforts.

Whitney Rites Held Here Wednesday

Harold Wayne Whitney died Monday at his Lake City home from a heart attack. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 pm at Eldora First Methodist with Rev. John K. Moore and Rev. Dewny Lamprecht officiating. Burial was in Eldora Cemetery. Surviving are his wife Betty Byerly, daughter Betty Lee, his mother Edith Whitney, two sisters, a brother, and other relatives. Whitney was a teacher and administrator in Eldora Union and Conrad schools, later with Lake City schools, and he served in the Navy in 1942. He was born October 11, 1907.

Red Cross Swim Program Sees 510 Enroll Across Eight Towns

More than five hundred children in Hardin County joined the annual Red Cross swimming school, which opened Monday. Director Jim Foster says each group will have three practice periods weekly, with enrollment still open. First day counts show Eldova and Whitten swimming on Tuesday Thursday and Saturdays at 8 30 am Union and Steamboat Rock at 9 30 am.

ASC Personnel Meeting At Iowa Falls June 28

District ASC personnel gather at Iowa Falls Monday June 28 to hear explanations on handling the record volume of price support loans and corn purchase agreements. Hardin county holds 1 728 976 bushels of 1953 corn under loan and 557 786 under purchases with 400 600 of 1952 corn under reseal, all maturing July 31. Farmers may seal 550 000 bushels for a one year storage payment of 15 cents a bushel, with no delivery needed to qualify, and purchase agreement holders may convert to loans to gain storage pay.

Funeral services for Mrs Amos Oldenburg were held Monday at 2 oclock from the Longenecker Funeral Home with burial in Eldora Cemetery. S. S. Boys Aid Des Moines With Flood Control

Flood Devastates Hardin County Crops and Roads

Hardin County endures three days of flooding as the town river remains under control. Alden and Eldora report high water easing by Wednesday, with thousands in crop and road damage likely.
