Weed Control Experiments On Modlin Farm Success
Extension director Richard Pulse reports a new weed control method used on Hardin County farms shows real promise against mustard artichoke and Canada thistle. A 30 acre oat field on Gerald Modlin farm sprayed with 2 4 D in June killed artichoke and browned thistle patches while oats and clover survived. Lower application rates and careful management reduced legume damage. Recommendations include limited glyphage and late May to early June spraying. alternate rotation with oats and delaying alfalfa reseeding.
