One Million in New Property Added to 1950 Tax Rolls
New buildings and improvements as of January 1 1950 totaled 470 044 in assessed value with about 300 000 in cities and towns and 170 000 in rural areas. Personal property rose from 6 468 774 in 1949 to 5 995 000 in 1950, a gain of 616 234 driven by farm machinery and mercantile inventories. Grain handled rose from 4 971 442 to 7 127 196 bushels. A state law change granting a 5 000 exemption on money and credits reduced assessments in that category, causing a net revenue drop and shifting gains to other property.
