Virginia Stiles writes of a three week old kitten abandoned to die on a golf course. The unnamed owner shows cruelty, but the pale creature nicknamed Arnold Palmer fights back with milk and care. The tale stresses compassion for animals and people as Arnie gains life and color.
The Iowa clash between Attorney General Richard C. Turner and Governor Robert D. Ray centers on buying a new 1973 Cessna for 58,627 from existing funds. Ray opposes the transfer without legislative approval, Turner pursues court action, and the executive council delayed a ruling as heated remarks flew between the officials.
A correction notes the Rough Woods Church story misstated founding details. Pleasant Chapel Church was the 1865 project. Rough Woods Church dates to 1880 with early services in the schoolhouse. Mrs Leonard Hughes, manager of Eldora Community School's child nutrition program, recently completed a one week management short course at Iowa State University.
