Weekend visitors gathered around the town as the Steamboat Rock community hosted guests from Perryburg and Marshalltown for social events. Multiple families shared meals, concerts, and birthday celebrations, with memories made at the Paul Hockett and Winters homes and other local residences.
The Point Pleasant Group gathered at Mr. and Mrs. Harley Bahr home for a pot-luck supper and visiting. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Morris Dreier, Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Clark, Mr. and Mrs. John Barnhart, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Eggleston, and Mrs. Forrest Wehrman of Garden Grove California, with other relatives visiting in Eldora and Hubbard. Rev. Alan Streyffeler from near Chicago spent a few days with Dreier relatives in the area.
Sunday school at 9 30 a m and morning worship at 10 30 a m featured a vocal solo by Mrs Mervyn Wooten with Mrs Ralph Winters. The Women's Missionary Society met Friday evening with Mrs Joel Smitherman and Mrs Mervyn Wooten as hostesses. A bridal shower for Jeri Bailey followed the business meeting.
Steamboat TARS members met at Pine Lake for a watermelon party. Officials announce summer plans including TAR camp and an Iowa Falls pool party hosted by Iowa Falls TARS. Steamboat Rock TARS will escort French exchange students to the Iowa Falls event. The group attended a talk by Lt. General Vernon Walters in Des Moines on July 17. The next meeting is set for August with elections for next year’s officers.
Steamboat Rock churches outline Sunday and Thursday services at First Baptist and United Presbyterian, with Bible studies, youth activities, and choir practice. Vacation Bible School planned for August. Regional visits include Rev Chap man and family, and locals such as Claud Marks and Irene DeBoer. A fundraising auction for Friendly Valley Housing Project raised about 518.25 with food sales boosting the building fund to roughly 700. A correction notes the starting building cost was $10,000, not $1,000.
Weekend visitors at the home of Mrs. Elsie Mitchell include her sons Miles Mitchell of Des Moines and Glen Mitchell and his Rochester family. Lois Mitchell, summer guest and Berlin servicemen's children school instructor, plans to return soon to resume classes. Glen Mitchell performed solo at the Sunday worship with The Lord is My Light. Miles played Ballad in B Major by Brahms.
Mrs Steve Deering and family plus multiple relatives gathered at MacRae Park on Sunday July 17 for a reunion. Other items mention July 16 travel home to Hayward and July 10 family gathering in Iowa Falls with Derald Case hosting guests George Miller and Catherine Miller from Marshalltown.
