Hardin County Savings Bank announces new hours for the motor bank. The drive in will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 30 p.m. Saturday.
The 4th annual Camp Pike veterans reunion will be held in the American Legion Hall in Town Falls Sunday July 23 with dinner not later than 1 pm. On July 23 1918 the Camp Pike veterans took a train from Eldora to Camp Pike Ark.
Eldora City Ordinance No. 224 requiring foundations does not apply to the Evens suit. Judge Edward G. Kelley in Ames ruled the ordinance targets the structure rather than the mobile home. The Evens plan to use the garage and utility room with the mobile home and costs were taxed against them. Water and sewer permits are expected as council agreed approval would be granted if the ordinance does not apply.
Robert Longenecker will succeed Wayne Newby as Noble Grand of Eldora Lodge No. 77 at installation ceremonies at the local hall Monday at 8 pm. On July 10 Liscomb Lodge conferred the First Degree on Harris Lieser of Eldora with 22 Liscomb visitors attending.
Entries are being received for the Pine Lake Invitational Amateur Golf Tournament to be held at the focal Pine Lake course on Sunday July 30 starting at 7am. A field of 128 golfers is expected, with about 90 entries already received, and local players urged to sign up at the country club. Championship flight will play 27 holes, other flights 18, with trophies and prizes.
Funeral services were held at the Friends Church for George V. Wellman 42 of Unionville Missouri died Sunday at Des Moines Veterans Hospital. The Rev Pauline County officiated with burial in New Providence Cemetery. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and married Audrey Copeland on July 23 1958. Survivors include his wife two children his mother one sister and five brothers. Arrangements were by Andrle Creps Funeral Home Elora.
The Cedarville College girls trio will present a sacred concert at Eldora First Baptist Church on Tuesday July 26 at 8 pm. The Cedarville College in Cedarville Ohio is among five Regular Baptist Approved Schools. Roger O Bryon, son of Mr and Mrs George O Bryon of Eldora, tours with a college quartet. Martha Short, daughter of Rev and Mrs H C Short of Eldora, will enroll at Cedarville this Fall.
Mrs Minnie Agusta Maronn Zoske born August 20 1877 in Pomona Germany died July 13 at Eldora Memorial Hospital age 84 funeral at St Johns Lutheran Hubbard with Rev Walter Schile officiating. Burial in Hubbard cemetery eight grandsons pallbearers 28 grandchildren and four great grandchildren survive. Arrangements by Hubbard Funeral Home.
Eldora area residents have a last chance to consign items for the weekly auction series this Friday July 21. The sixth and final auction runs from 7 to 8 p.m. on the north side of the courthouse. Sellers receive the full purchase price and should notify the Chamber of Commerce office by 4 p.m. Friday.
The fift annual Eldora Fly-In Breakfast sponsored by the Thunderbird Flying Club returns Sunday at the local airfield serving 6:30 to 10 a.m. The event features helicopter rides, a model airplane meet, casting and spraying demos, and a landing contest with a trophy from the Eldora Chamber of Commerce. Free breakfast for Fly-Ins, 65 cents for locals, and plans include a 1,000 foot runway extension and free transport for visiting flyers.
Clare Goebel 47 of Charles City was charged with failing to stop at a rural intersection one mile north and two west of Cleves when his 1052 Ford hit Theodore Kolthoff 31 of Steamboat Rock in a Wednesday morning crash. Kolthoff’s 1856 Plymouth sustained $160 damage. Goebel’s car $100. Both men uninjured. Deputy Sheriff Gene Setchell issued a ticket to Kate Kolthoff Ackley for failing to stop at the same intersection while he prepared the report.
The third in the Date Night series is set for Saturday at the New Grand Theatre Eldora. The feature includes Key Witnesses with a special two for the price of one coupon detailed in today’s Hardin County Index society page advertisement.
Raymond L Murphy age 18 of Richards Gebaur Air Force Base Missouri and Del Marie Anderson age 19 of Kansas City Missouri received a marriage license. Timothy Bruning age 22 of Manly and Sue Ann Stockdale age 21 of Tow Falls also obtained a license.
A Tuesday Lutheran Hannah's Helping Hands meeting discussed Destination of Heavenward Hope. Mrs. Marvin Balvanz led devotion from John 6 37 44 and lessons. Members rehearsed greeting cards for an invalid Des Moines recipient who will craft notepaper from them. Dresser scarves were sent to Lutheran Homes for the Aged in Vinton Perry and given to Eldora Memorial Hospital.
Two county wide livestock judging workouts were held with the final two planned this week. Hardin county extension associate Ron Brunk reported Monday. The first three workouts covered Everette Strathe farm Hubbard Birch Fleming farm Radcliffe and the Stevert Livestock Co Hubbard. Top scorers included Green Reisinger Eldora Jim Granzow Iowa Falls Kurtis Kelsey Iowa Falls Monte Strathe Hubbard Bob Granzow Iowa Falls and Ike Rooks Eldora. Twenty one boys attended the first session and nineteen the second. The four top county performers will go to the State Fair judging show.
A man served lunch as the Hex meeting was announced for August 15 at 8 p.m with Mrs Martin Kasisechke.
Friday evening an all youth night was held at the First Baptist Church in Eldora. The event brought together local youth for activities and fellowship as part of church outreach.
A brief social roundup notes a ping pong game a scavenger hunt and a party hosted by the girls missionary build. Guild officers Kay Eggleston Laura Taylor Leona Tordoff and Sue led the event with the guild members assisting.
