Shoppers braved rain to visit vendors on the city sidewalks as Khar Kar of Vlado sat contently while Brother toured a busy retail area. Children tired from a long day wandered among costumes and makeshift stalls, the crowded scene reflecting a bustling but damp marketplace.
Eldora Community School board hired Charles O Bryon as English and speech instructor for the 7475 year. He holds a master’s from the University of Northern Iowa Cedar Falls, with prior service and two more years teaching. Salary set at 10100 with speech duties. Instrumental instructor vacancy remains. interviews continue. Two new bus drivers hired for next year. Building site proposal near Eldora Hospital eyed at 2500 per acre. one mill levy has 26500 toward site needs, estimates 1980 purchase. Discussions on options and city extension of avenues ongoing. Eldora Community School district finances show $550 765 spent on gross salaries for professional instructors in the just finished school year. The breakdown lists administrators and teachers with several over 10 000 yearly, including Superintendent George Rinehart at 20 500 and multiple staff across elementary junior high and high school.
Highway 175 widening work starts this week with paving to the county line as crews estimate a three to four day finish if weather cooperates. Resident engineer Jat & Peters of Marshalltown says grading continues toward Grundy county and a creeper lane will be added near Pine Lake State Park. The project remains hazardous with shoulders unfinished and the state park entrance operating one lane during construction.

The budget assumes 921 students, a basic per pupil cost of 1,044, and includes funds for the school site and house mill levies, though some may not be spent. A public hearing is set for July 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the superintendent’s office.
Six area districts including Tama town Eldora and New Providence plan September 10 contests for four directors each term expirations noted for several incumbents. Nominating papers available via district secretaries with August 28 deadline. election officials and district secretaries named.
The Eldora board announced Be Friendly Week and held a meeting to discuss monthly and annual financial reports. A resolution renewing bank depositories was approved with Mardin County Savings Bank set to 650000 and Second National Bank to 850000. The next regular meeting is August 14, with a special session July 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the superintendent's office for the proposed 1974 75 budget hearing.
Hardin County Sheriff and Medical Examiner report the body of 62 year old Dean Gus Summit found in a Poseyville area house after a late morning break in. Mr and Mrs Ted Koll owners of the Wayside Inn are converting their establishment from a restaurant to an apartment complex. The top floor apartment is now available for rent. The building sits on Edgington Avenue opposite Eldora Medical Center.
