Brown To Compete In Rotary Golf Meet In Venice Italy
R. R. Brown of Eldora was chosen to represent Rotary District 597 at the International Rotary Golf Tournament in Venice on September 15 to 17. He earned selection after finishing second to Dr. Kromer of Waverly in the district event, which Brown topped with a 73 in 18 holes while Kromer shot 72. The medal play 72 hole format will see Brown aiming for a strong showing following prior runner up finishes in 1967 and 1965.

The Hubbard Hawkettes improved to 7-0 in the Iowa River Valley Conference by routing Alden 12-2 in six innings. Bill Otto Sr. of Hubbard is confined to bed for ten days after a corn elevator accident on his farm. While delivering corn with his son on a Friday, his clothes were torn and he suffered arm and leg cuts. He was treated at Hubbard Medical Center and required skin grafting for his injured leg.

Five Quakerdale Boys Apprehended In Theft Spree
Five boys from Quakerdale Farm north of New Providence were apprehended after a string of thefts. Ages ranged 12 to 15 as they allegedly stole a Mead's dairy truck in Eldora, drove to Des Moines, then to Indianola where a pickup was stolen. They were caught in Ames. Three were jailed in Eldora, later released. another was sent back to Quakerdale. A sixth boy, who left Quakerdale June 29, was arrested in Mason City after stealing a Trojan Seed Co school bus and driving to Waterloo and Town Falls. He was captured in Mason City.
