A town report notes damage from an electrical storm and wind affecting buildings near Eldora and Providence. Memorial Day observances drew a large crowd. the Eldora area wool trade offered favorable prices. Pine Lake real estate development progresses with Pine Park lots selling and a Memorial Parade expansion planned.
Charles Blake, Hubbard High School science and math instructor, will join a six week course at Iowa State University in Ames from June 30 to August 8. About 30 high school teachers from across the nation attend the NSF funded program, staying in Finley Hall. Blake holds a BS from ISU in industrial arts math and physical sciences and has served on the Hubbard faculty for five years. Clarence Cockerham of Eldora reports county savings bonds volunteers contributing to a five month saving goal for the county.
Iowa State University extension economist Gene Futrell says June Dairy Month shows small shifts in milk production prices and dairy use versus a year earlier. National milk output in Jan-Apr 1989 dipped about 2 percent due to fewer milk cows, offset by higher per cow production. commercial dairy sales stayed near 8 year-ago levels with Iowa’s 1969 milk cow count down 60 percent from 1968. Prices averaged 1.62 dollars per hundredweight for Jan-Apr milk, while fluid milk rose a bit and manufactured dairy products fell slightly. imports and exports run at this year’s pace, with year total imports near 1.2 billion pounds. Feed costs remain favorable with April mill-feed price ratio at 168, up 5 percent from last year.
Sunday School at nine thirty, morning worship at ten thirty. Last Sunday a dedication service for the new chapel organ funded by memorial money. Specials included a vocal solo by Mervyn Wooten, with Mrs. Jim Shea and vocal by David Smitherman accompanied by Mrs. Woolen. Attendees from multiple nearby towns.
Producers in the wheat and feed grain programs will receive Payment Calculation Statements with sight drafts. The statements detail payment amount, planted and diverted acreage, projected yield, and the program involved. They should be kept with farm records and can be obtained from the County ASCS office if damaged or misplaced.
The Shiloh Homemakers group plans a two September bus run to the House in the Rock at Spring Green with stops at Hagar Pottery Lee Wards and Art Craft and Needlework Center. A boat trip on Lake nape may be added and a $10 down payment is requested with contacts Mrs John Olthoff or Mrs Harm C Meyer before August.
Dorene, Raymond and Donald with Mr and Mrs Dallas Williams attended the Brindle reunion at the Center in Union Sun Ne. Mrs Arthur Woolen joined Mr and Mrs Jesse North of Hubbard, accompanying them to Minnesota. Also noted were Mrs Dale Gibbs, Jake and Connie, Conrad, Vic Rogers, Whit and Mrs Don Gibbs with Dee Maines.
