Hardin county's Board of Education may act Monday on Alden consolidation. The plan requires map changes to create a separate Alden district before an election, with residents of Alden independent and Alden township voting separately. A majority is needed in both districts to merge, affecting four rural schools and pupils across Alden Township and nearby towns.
Sealed bids on Union township bonds to buy a new fire truck and equipment totaling 4500 will be opened Monday Jan 12 at the Union town hall at 7 30 p m. Bonds totaling 2500 for Union township for the same purpose will be opened the same day at 7 30 p m. Bids go to the township trustees and town council and will be sold to the highest bidder.
Three new student teachers will arrive in Eldora Monday January 5 to assume duties under the teacher training program with State college. They are Connie Read of Derlyn Lauterbach Tehanae Mangaret from Iowa. They will work with students during a nesting of the Future Home America event Monday evening and will observe classes Shera will assign for their work. The group will remain in Eldora through February 11 and assist with both adult and day classes.
Eldora Auction Co plans two farm sales in Eldora area next week. Hendal will hold a public auction Tuesday on a farm four and a half miles north and four and a half miles west of Radcliffe. L. A. Schneider will conduct a closing out sale Thursday on the George Cross farm one mile south of the Berlin church. Hendal offers machinery, equipment, buildings, household goods, hay, straw, oats and chickens. Schneider lists fourteen head of livestock, farm machinery and buildings, and hay and straw.
Kenneth Wagner of West Liberty Iowa heads Iowa State Soil Conservation Committee reporting regional meetings across the state drew representation from all 100 soil districts except three. Local districts sent eight attendees on average, with discussions on gaining additional technical assistance and funding to hire more personnel for the coming year.
Montay John Bekemeier and Clinton Mitchell of Tull- Probasco Hardware attended Des Moines first private closed circuit showing telecast from Philco factory Philadelphia. The 1953 line was transmitted via transcontinental microwave towers to Des Moines and beamed from a tower near Northwestern Bell Building to a seventh floor Hotel Savery receiver.
Eldora Mill and Manufacturing Co owners Lew Throssel and Ange Jensen unveiled plans to nearly double Infanseat production after a 1952 triple in business. The firm, established in 1945, now ships to all 50 states plus Hawaii and Bermuda with new California distribution and a goal of 7 to 10 thousand seats in 1953.
The Eldora Township Farm Bureau will hold a 6 30 potluck supper at the Community House before the evening meeting on Tuesday January 6. Mr and Mrs Maurice Cook will lead with a report and pictures from Seattle Washington where they attended the National Farm Bureau convention. Special music is planned. The meeting is open to the public and everyone is invited.
Uniform PVT Wehrman returns to Fort Hueneme after holiday with parents Harald and Mrs Wehrman. Christmas guests include Rubnke, Ruhnke families, Grantow family, and H J Wehrman. Broer from Sioux City Air Base home on furlough. Lt Gregory Webster leaves Estora for Fort Campbell Ky. Mrs Webster joins after moving furniture. Pvt Cretin on furlough to Camp Pendleton January 9 after parental Day.
J A Page depot agent here died Wednesday noon after several months illness. He is survived by his wife and three daughters Rosemary Page Mrs D J Delanery Des Moines and Mrs F J Kuennan Mason City. Funeral plans were not set at press time due to the holiday. The body rests at Andrie and Creps Funeral Home. He had been on sick leave from his job.
The first baby born in Eldora Memorial hospital in 1953 will earn 17 gifts from local merchants. Eligible infants must reside in the Eldora trade area and be born at the hospital. parents must submit name and address, baby name, birth time and date, sex, and weight to the Eldora Newspapers.
Hospital notes list patients including Eldora George Dickenson and Florence Geers, with other names such as Raymond Blackmun Rufus H Faris Ephraim J Reece and more. Births recorded include Radcliffe daughter Reuben Johnson, a girl. Mrs Austin Buerckley’s girl. and several other newborns with dates in December.
Registration for the Eldora Adult evening school is Wednesday in the high school home economics room from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. Enrollment starts January 14 with classes in manual training commercial art homemaking Spanish driver training and free lectures by the Hardin County Bar Association. Driver training runs Saturday mornings under instructor Vincent Lampe.
Funeral services were held at Steamboat Rock Presbyterian church for Mrs. Carl Klettke 66 who died Friday December 26 at her daughter’s home in Melbourne Indiana. She was born August 19 1846 in West Persia Germany and came to America in 1910 with 11 children surviving along with 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Burial followed at Steamboat Rock.
The doubles cribbage tournament co sponsored by the Eldera American Legion and the Ping Lake Wildlife Club will be held Wednesday January 7 beginning at 7 30 pm in the Legion club rooms. Open to the public a fifty cent entry fee is charged prizes awarded and a lunch served.
Susie Belle Rowray, 91, died in an Eldora nursing home on Saturday. Services were held Monday at Home for Funerals in Iowa Falls with Rev. Warren Feller officiating. Burial followed at Alden. Surviving mention none. A. L. Davison and Wesley Emmert met Tulsa relatives in Des Moines and Eldora, then the party flew home.

Report cites 1950 to 1952 nine month totals and attributes changes to drivers resident in each county. Eldora Volunteer Fire department hosted its annual Christmas party with potluck, gift exchange, and musical numbers by Floyd Hurtt and daughters. fifty-one attendees.
Architects from Brooks-Borg outline elementary school site options to a joint Board of Education and Citizens Committee at a public meeting set for 7 30 p m Monday Jan 5 in the Maines building. The Citizens Committee will act as an information liaison and include representatives from local groups such as Kiwanis City Council Woman’s Club V F W Auxiliary and Rural Carroll Hobson.
